Understanding Chronic Pain is a personal narrative, a record of my passage among victims of chronic pain and the discoveries that have come from those encounters. I write for physicians, nurses, therapists, and caregivers, but mostly, I write for you who suffer the disease.

Few physicians are aware of the pervasive and lingering effects of childhood abuse and the many ways it impacts on medical practice. We have yet to recognize just how many of our treatment failures, both medical and surgical, are dictated by remote childhood trauma. The Spinal Cord Tumor Association, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization formed by spinal cord tumor survivors for the purpose of supporting survivors and their families. We also seek to educate and raise awareness about this rare and debilitating illness, and work in partnership with the medical community and others to improve survivors quality of life, as well as for the prevention and cure of spinal cord tumors.
